Description
The Bush Monument is a chest tomb located approximately 5 meters northeast of the chancel of the Church of St Thomas a Becket in Widcombe. It commemorates Henry Bush, who died in 1705. The tomb is made of limestone with a sandstone panel. It features a plain chest with a flat top and a bold cyma mould edge, along with a frieze. Each long side has two fielded panels, while the short ends have an inset panel, all resting on a moulded base, with part of it buried near the churchyard wall. The earliest inscription is on the east side, dedicated to Henry Bush, 1705, and there is an inset sunk sandstone panel on the west side with fine lettering commemorating Thomas Bush, who died in 1743. The monument is generally in good condition, although a short section of the frieze is missing from the south side. It is situated at plot 129.
