Description
Jefferies House is a detached, two-storey building located on Jefferies Lane in Goring-by-Sea, dating from around 1880. Richard Jefferies, the naturalist and writer, lived here from 1886 until his death in 1887. The house has a characterful but unpretentious design, with the main front facing south towards the garden. It features large flints and brick dressings, three windows including a central camber-headed casement and two side bay windows with five-light sashes. There are decorated tiles between the storeys and in the gables above the bay windows. The central door consists of five moulded, fielded panels. On the north side, the house has a lean-to pitch roof covered with slates and wooden finials, three casement windows, and a central door. The north front and sides are constructed of deep-set flints.
