Description
Lamp standard located on Farncombe Road in Worthing, dating from around 1900 and manufactured by Mackenzie Bros of Edinburgh. This cast iron lamp standard stands approximately 20 feet high and features an octagonal shaft adorned with floral and fleur de lys motifs halfway down, as well as a deep plinth at the base. At the top, there is an ornate tapering arm that supports a hexagonal iron lantern with frosted glass. The supporting brackets display a daffodil design. One side of the standard includes a connection box door that features the Worthing Coat of Arms, which consists of a shield with three fishes and the motto "EX TERRA COPIAM E MARI SALVYEM."
