Description

Probably dating to around 1800, 7-13 Broadwater Street East is a range of cottages situated on a sloping site at the entrance to the street, and forming part of the view of Broadwater Church. The cottages are two storeys high, with moulded wooden eaves and a moulded string course marking the first floor. There are five sash windows, not quite evenly spaced, with slender glazing bars. Number 7 has a modern shopfront, while number 9 has a shopfront likely dating to the Victorian era. Numbers 11 and 13 have modern windows on the ground floor and left-hand doors with overlights; number 11 has a door of five moulded panels and number 13 a door of six moulded panels, the top two of which are glazed. The roofs are generally of a low pitch, with number 7 having a slate roof and the rest tiled. The upper storeys of numbers 11 and 13 are tile-hung, while elsewhere the walls are stuccoed. The west-facing return front of number 7 projects and is tile-hung to the upper storey, with the rest rendered. The rear of the cottages features sash windows with slender glazing bars. These cottages form a prominent group due to their location.
