Description
The gates, wall, and gatepiers located approximately 20 metres west of the west front of Old Place were built around 1880 as part of C E Kempe's improvements to the estate. The structure features red brick walling with some vitrified headers, complemented by sandstone dressings and cast and wrought iron railings and gates. At each end, there are Dutch gabled brickwork features with sandstone moulded coping, flanked by square brick piers that have moulded sandstone cornices and ball finials. These are accompanied by two additional brick piers with similar finials and cast iron spear railings in between. In the centre, there is a pair of elegant wrought iron gates adorned with Art Nouveau sinuous scrollwork, all resting on a brick plinth.
