Description

Grove Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating back to the 16th century. It has been extended and refronted in the early 19th century. The timber framing of five bays is exposed on the north front, which sits on a base of brick or stone. The building has two storeys and features four windows. The south front is tile hung on the first floor and made of red brick on the ground floor, topped with a tiled roof that has two brick chimneystacks.

The west wing is an early 19th-century addition constructed from tooled sandstone ashlar with red brick dressings. The north front showcases an exposed box frame with curved wind braces and has irregular 20th-century casements. The base of sandstone rubble for the central three bays and brick for the end bays indicates that the end bays may not be part of the original structure.

There is a mid-19th-century brick gabled porch on the right-hand side. The south front includes three casements, a triangular brick buttress, and a gabled weatherboarded porch with Gothic pointed lights on the sides. The west wing is of a higher elevation and features a 20th-century casement within an original cambered architrave. The roof retains original rafters and curved tension braces, with jowled posts on the upper floors and a wall frame that includes a midrail. The building also has chamfered spine beams and axial beams with lamb's tongue stops.
