Description
Blackdog Cottage is a late 16th century timber-framed farmhouse that is one storey high with attics. The front is faced in red brick, dating from around 1800, and features three wooden casement windows under segmental arches, although one window and a doorway are now blocked. The old tiled roof is hipped at both the north and south ends, with the north end extending over a 17th century brick chimney stack. There is one gabled dormer that is tile-hung, and the rear elevation includes another dormer and six planks of weatherboarding under the eaves. The timber-framing is partly exposed at the base, with brick infilling, and the windows have been replaced with modern metal casements. The first floor at the south end is also tile-hung. There is a single storey brick and tiled outbuilding at the south-west angle, which is linked to the cottage. Inside, the cottage features an open fireplace with ironstone jambs and stop-chamfered beams.
