Description
Jordans is a 16th-century farmhouse that was altered in the early 18th and 19th centuries and is now a private house. The building consists of two parallel ranges, with the rear range being the original 16th-century farmhouse. It is a two-storey timber-framed structure with a steeply pitched tiled roof that runs north and south, extending over an outshut on the west side. The upper storey and gable at the south end feature tile-hanging above the ground floor, with bands of pointed tiles. The north side also has tile-hanging above. There is 18th-century brickwork and one original casement window with leaded panes. The 19th-century gable has a short hip at the north end of the west side.
Inside, the ceiling beams and joists of the original kitchen are exposed, with some of the joists being stop-chamfered. On the first floor, there are upright posts with jowls and diagonal braces. In the early 18th century, the house was expanded by adding a parallel range of brick on the east side, which also has a steeply pitched roof. A brick chimney breast of unusual depth runs up the south end and forms the external wall of the eastern half of the gable end, while the western half is tile-hung above the tiled offset of the chimney breast. The ground floor features two sash windows and a tripartite window, along with an open fireplace inside. The east range was further extended to the north in the 19th century by a brick addition containing two rooms with a gable.
