Description
This is a substantial early 19th century building, with modifications to an earlier structure, located on the south side of Westgate. It consists of two parallel ranges and presents three storeys, its frontage being higher than the adjacent buildings at Nos. 27 and 29. The roof is tiled with gabled ends and features three small stacks along the ridge. A brick modillion eaves cornice runs along the top of the facade. The building is constructed of red brick.
The facade has three windows, each with flat arches and shaped stucco architraves. At each end of the first floor are two-light casement windows. The remaining windows are sash windows, retaining their original glazing bars, and are set within reveals. A flat-arched doorway serves Nos. 31 and 33, also with shaped stuccoed architraves and rectangular fanlights above the doors. No. 35 retains an 18th century doorway, featuring a door with six flush panels. This door is set within a doorcase comprising Doric pilasters, an entablature, and a moulded rectangular pediment.
Nos. 27 to 39 form a notable group when viewed together.
