Description

27 Westgate is an 18th-century building comprising two wings, one oriented east-west and the other north-south. The east-west wing has a steeply pitched tiled roof with stacks positioned behind it at the east end, and behind and on the ridge at the west end. It is two storeys high with an attic, featuring three flat-roofed dormers with intact glazing bars. A small, modillion eaves cornice runs along the top. The exterior is red brick, with three windows, each set in reveals and topped with segmental arches featuring rubbed brick voussoirs. The sash windows retain their original glazing bars. The front door is set within panelled reveals and has five panels, with the top panel cut away and glazed. It is topped by a flat-arched doorway, adorned with a moulded, shouldered architrave, an entablature, and a pediment. Behind the east end of the east-west wing is a north-south wing. To the west, a parallel 18th-century range runs behind No. 27 and extends as far west as No. 35. Nos. 27 to 39 (odd numbers) have group value.
