Description

This is a pair of blocks of houses dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, situated on the southeast side of Orchard Street. The buildings consist of two storeys, with one window each. Numbers 174 to 178 have an additional attic storey, each with a gabled dormer. The buildings present a continuous facade, although numbers 180 to 186 have a lower ridge line. They are topped with tiled roofs. Numbers 174 to 178 are stuccoed (covered with a plaster finish), while numbers 180 to 186 are constructed of red brick. The windows are sash windows with intact glazing bars, featuring flat headings above the upper windows and segmental headings above the lower windows. The original front doors are mostly flush-panelled or moulded, with cut-away and glazed upper panels. Number 178 has a doorway with a flat hood supported on brackets, and number 174 features a moulded door frame with a cornice above.
