Description
49 West Street is a late 18th-century building, constructed slightly later than the adjacent No 48. It is set back a bit to the south, featuring a lower frontage and roofline compared to No 48. The building has a red tiled roof with crest tiles and stacks located at the rear. The exterior is made of red brick, with a brick dentilled cornice beneath the eaves. It stands two storeys tall and has three windows. The sash windows have flush boxes and flat arches, with the upper windows retaining their glazing bars. The ground floor windows have relieving arches with splayed backs, although these are now painted and the glazing bars are missing. The entrance door is set in reveals and features four moulded panels along with a semi-circular fanlight above, framed by a semi-circular doorway. The doorcase is adorned with engaged Doric columns, triglyphs, and a rectangular pediment with modillions above.
