Description
No 21 St Martin's Square is an 18th-century building that stands two storeys tall and features three windows. It is constructed of red brick with distinctive brick dressings and uniquely designed quoins that resemble vertical castellation. The central section of the building projects slightly and includes a Venetian window on the first floor, which has Gothic-style divisions in its head and a gable above that resembles a pediment, complete with an ogee-shaped window in the gable. The other windows are framed with keystones above, flat arches, slender glazing bars, and rubbed brick voussoirs. There is a string course above the ground floor, and a cornice with modillions above the first floor that extends into the gable and returns over the quoins like pilasters. The doorway is adorned with Doric pilasters, an entablature, and a pediment that also features modillions. No 21 is part of a group with Nos 1, 2, 3, 20, and 6 Lion Street.
