Description
An 18th-century house on this site was remodelled in the early 19th century. The main front of Winterton Lodge faces south, with a coach arch leading to a cobbled yard along East Street. The facade is stuccoed, except for the 18th-century core, which retains cobble facing with brick dressings, quoins, and upper courses. This original section features a later bow window with three sash windows on each floor, topped by a hipped slate roof. A lower, two-storey wing is set to the left, connected by a later three-window extension to the East Street frontage. Sash windows are prevalent throughout. The main front includes an attic with four unevenly-spaced paired dormers and eight sash windows, topped by a moulded eaves cornice. Parapetted gable ends feature kneelers. A blank plaque is situated between the second and third windows on the first floor. A flat-roofed projection of five bays is visible on the left-hand side of the ground floor, with a central entrance framed by Doric columns. The return side facing Goda Road is lower, rendered, and features a projecting entrance and lobby divided into four bays by pilasters. A two-storey canted bay is present on the left, with glazing bar sashes. The stable entrance on East Street is stuccoed, with a cambered coach arch on rusticated piers, extended upwards as plain pilasters framing a blind window with a keystone. An eaves band runs along the top. A plain stucco building with moulded quoins and a brick modillion eaves cornice stands to the right.
