Description

Pyrford Court is a country house built around 1910 by Clyde Young for Lord Iveagh, with later inter-war additions designed by the owner. The house is constructed of red brick in the Neo-Carolean style, featuring brick quoins, hipped plain tiled roofs, and stone coped stacks. It has two storeys and an attic, with wooden pedimented dormers.

The main front has eight bays, a brick band over the ground floor, and bracketed eaves. There are five dormers with alternating triangular and segmental pediments, and glazing bar sash windows beneath gauged heads, with circular windows in the outer bays of the first floor. The central window on the first floor is adorned with flanking scrolls and floral carving, and has a raised brick apron below. The central entrance features a panelled door and transom light, surrounded by fluted composite pilasters and an open segmented pediment with floral carving. There are single bay breaks at either end with similar doors on the inner faces, and three bay wings that project forward at the ends.

To the right, there is an interior addition in a similar style, consisting of seven bays with a central door in a fluted composite columned portico topped with a flat lead roof, along with a garage extension. The garden front mirrors this style and includes glazed conservatories at each end. Inside, the entrance hall features a gallery across the rear wall and a panelled ceiling. There is a panelled library with Gibbons style floral carvings, and the main staircase is highlighted by a three-arched Ionic screen at the bottom, with an internal Ionic cupola above the main flight.
