Description

The tomb of John Rawlings is a chest tomb located in St Peter's churchyard, dating from around 1748. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a stone base with a chamfered plinth. The tomb has gadrooned corner piers that have moulded bases and deep cornices. The flat top has a moulded edge, and the side panels are plain, with the north side displaying a well-carved commemorative inscription that reads: "John Rawlings, of this parish gen: who died March ye 8: 1748. Aged 56 years." The top slab is also inscribed, but the text is illegible. This is a fine example of a mid-18th century chest tomb.
