Description
Birch House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and significant extensions added to the rear in the 20th century. The front features a timber frame of thin scantling, with brick infill below and fishscale tile hanging above. The extensions are constructed of yellow stock brick and painted boarding, topped with plain tiled roofs that include a central ridge stack. The house has two storeys and an attic, featuring gable end windows and three bays, with a central bargeboarded gable bay that projects. Throughout the building, there are casement windows. The central bay has a 20th-century six-panel door beneath a curved pent roofed porch hood, and there is an additional glazed door in a single-storey pent roof addition to the left end. Inside, some framing is visible, primarily in the ceiling joists.
