Description

No 72 High Street is a building composed of three distinct parts. The southern section is timber framed, likely from the 17th century, featuring one storey and an attic with three bays. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof adorned with three gabled dormers. The upper walls display a combination of banded plain and fishscale tile hanging, while the lower section is made of rubble stonework. There is a rebuilt chimney at the north gable end.

The middle section dates from the early 20th century and is set back to blend with its neighbour. This part has two storeys and an attic with two bays, a steep hipped tiled roof, and a tall hipped dormer. The left bay projects under the roof with a canted hip. The first floor features banded plain and fishscale tiles, while the ground floor is constructed of brick in English bond with red stretchers and blue headers. It includes large leaded casements, a square bay window on the ground floor to the right, and a projecting gabled porch on the ground floor to the left.

The northern section is a decorative building, probably from the mid-19th century, with two storeys and three bays. It has a fairly high pitched tiled roof that is quarter hipped on the right, complemented by tall end chimneys. The walls are made of coursed malmstone cut to brick size, featuring dark spotted galleting, quoins, a first-floor band, and alternating block window dressings of red brick. The first floor has modern casements, while the ground floor has plate glass windows beneath cambered arches. The central window is blocked on both floors, and the foundation consists of larger rubble.
