Description

This is an 18th-century townhouse located on the High Street. It is a three-storey building with five windows, constructed of red brick with grey brick headers arranged alternately. Brown brick pilasters frame the front facade. The building features brick stringcourses and a modillion eaves cornice. It has a hipped tiled roof, and the original glazing bars remain intact. The ground and first-floor windows have segmental heads. The doorway is distinguished by fluted pilasters, a triglyph frieze, a projecting cornice, and a segmental-headed door consisting of six fielded panels, with the two central panels cut away and glazed. The house was once the residence of the mountaineer Edward Whymper.
