Description

Tillings is a hall house dating from the early 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and extensions added to the rear in the 20th century. It features a timber frame set on a brick plinth, with red and blue brick infilling at the ground floor and white-washed rendered infill above. The roofs are plain tiled, hipped with gablets on the main range and half-hipped with a gablet on the cross wing. The building has an L-shaped plan, with the cross wing projecting to the left. It has one storey and attics under the eaves, with leaded gabled dormers at the ends of the main range, and two storeys in the centre and on the cross wing.

There is a square corbelled multiple stack at the right end, along with additional stacks at the rear. The front features one leaded casement window on the first floor in the centre and two windows on the ground floor. The door is located to the right of centre, sheltered by a flat hood supported on braces. The left cross wing has two bays with bracing on the centre posts and a king-post type roof truss, and includes one three-light window on each floor, as well as two windows on the first floor of the return front. The right-hand return front is finished with attractive sandstone rubble cladding, featuring ironstone galleting and occasional lumps of ironstone.
