Description
Half Moon House is a timber-framed house dating from around 1500. Originally, it featured an open hall consisting of two bays, with a cross wing on the west side and a later cross wing at the opposite end. The main truss has heavy jowled posts and a slightly cambered tie beam, with a central peg hole indicating a crown post construction, although the roof is not accessible for inspection. The exterior at the rear and on the west cross wing shows stout square framing, with jettied sections. The filling is a mix of rubble and brick. The other rear elevations are tile hung above and brick below, with some areas of small, galleted coursed rubble masonry.
The front of the house has two storeys and three bays, with the left bay covered by a projecting wing that connects to No. 10. The timber framing is visible, and the right bay is gabled and jettied. The first floor is tile hung, while the framing below is filled with brick. There are large modern casements and a square bay on the right, along with a modern pent porch on the left. The roofs are swept tiled, featuring tall brick chimneys.
