Description
7 Petworth Road is a long timber-framed double range of buildings. The front range likely dates from the 17th century and has undergone alterations, while the back right part may be from the 16th century or earlier. The lower back left part, separated from the front range by a narrow courtyard, also appears to be from the 17th century. The building has two storeys and features four bays at the front, with one bay of the back building visible on the right, showing some exposed framing. The roofs are steeply pitched, with the front range hipped and three returned gable ends, the rightmost of which extends down as a catslide. There are two old brick chimneys. The first floor has a band of plain and fishscale tile hanging, while the ground floor is made of 19th-century red brick. Early 20th-century small paned casements with transoms are present. The first floor has a bellcast that rests on wooden brackets. At the back, the roofs sweep low to walls made of rubble and red brick. Inside, there is some very stout exposed framing in the oldest range.
