Description

Stonecroft is a house built in 1904 for Ernest Harris, one of the owners of Wrecclesham Pottery, and his wife Agnes E. Harris. The house is notable for its decorative brick and tilework, as well as the use of Farnham green glazed ware from the pottery. It is constructed of brick in stretcher bond with terracotta dressings, has a tiled roof, and features two brick chimneystacks.

The building has two storeys and three windows. The front elevation includes a side gable with one cambered sash window on each floor. The left side has a half-hipped gable with triple casement windows on both floors, and a tiled canopy above the ground floor window. There is a central penticed porch with brick round-headed arches. The rear elevation features a hipped roof on the right with a four-light casement on the first floor and a gabled projection on the ground floor, which includes a central casement and a set-back left-hand bay with a double casement. Decorative pottery tiles on the house display the date 1904 along with the initials EH and AEH.

Attached to the southwest is an unusual lean-to conservatory with a brick base and terracotta glazing bars, which include a row of circles. Inside, the house features a staircase with wooden balusters, a first-floor window with a tree of life decoration and original hinges, a green glazed fireplace with a round-headed arch and a series of brackets, a blue and green glazed fireplace, glazed tiles in the kitchen and bathroom, and stained glass in the door.
