Description
Knights Almshouses, built in 1861, are located on the north west side of The Street in Wrecclesham. The building is two storeys high and features five bays, with the end and center bays projecting forward, each topped with a gable. The gables have finials and attic storeys that include blind lancet panels. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with dark blue and red tiles, complete with cresting. The brick front is accented with stone quions and dressings, and there is a dentil eaves cornice. The windows are two-light casements with dripstones, with taller windows in the end bays. A stringcourse with tiled canopies runs along the building, and two-light casements are positioned beside the center bays. The doors in the bays flanking the center are ledged and have brackets. There is a stone archway leading to the porch, featuring carved spandrels and a dripstone above. This building is part of a group with other listed buildings on the north west side, extending from The Bear and Ragged Staff Inn to No 70, including Nos 52 to 58 (even).
