Description

The farm buildings located approximately 12 metres to the west of Runfold Farm Cottage date back to the early 19th century. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and feature a weather-boarded timber frame on a brick plinth, topped with a plain tile roof.

The structure consists of a tall two-storey single-cell brick section on the right and a lower two-storey, two-bay weather-boarded section on the left. An earlier restored and altered bay attached to the south is not considered of special interest. The brick part has a board doorway with a three-pane overlight on the left and an inserted flat-brick-arched opening above it. To the right of this doorway is a small window with a segmental header-brick arch, and in the centre, there is a larger similar window at the eaves. The eaves band is covered by boards, and the roof is hipped, featuring an iron weather vane.

The weather-boarded section indicates that both parts were built together, as evidenced by the seatings for the right-hand wall post for the end of the wall plate. It has a board stable door on the left, with most of the weatherboarding replaced, although some earlier boards remain at the upper level. The roof is half-hipped to the left.

At the rear, the brick part has a 20th-century door on the right and upper windows similar to those at the front. The weather-boarded section has doorways on each floor on the left, with the upper one accessed by removable wooden steps. This upper level features original ribbed boards and an iron crane pivoted from the left jamb. The lower level on the right has a renewed plinth, with some weatherboarding replaced by modern brick infill. The left return retains a significant amount of the original weatherboarding.

Inside the weather-boarded section, there are two timber-framed bays with wall posts, a mid rail, wall plate studding, and Queen strut roof trusses, one of which is collared, with curved braces extending from the posts to the tie beams. A former central ground floor stud partition has been removed. The first floor walls are boarded, and the roof is underdrawn, suggesting that this area may have been used as a granary or storage space. Additionally, there are two board hatches under segmental header-brick arches and a doorway leading up wooden steps into the brick part.
