Description
The Gables is a house dating from the 17th century, which was extended and remodeled in the mid-19th century. It features a timber-framed wing on the north side, with the frame exposed on the north face and filled with colourwashed brick and render. The southern extensions are built of brick and clad in pebbledash, topped with plain tiled roofs that are half-hipped at the street front.
The building has two storeys and includes a single-storey shop wing at the right (north) end. The street front has a central stack on the half-hipped range, with additional stacks to the left. There is one single-pane sash window at the centre of the first floor, and an angle bay window below it. To the right, there are two square shop windows flanking a recessed door. The main entrance is to the left in a set-back range, sheltered by a gabled hood.
On the left-hand return front, there are two gabled wings, each featuring a 3-light "cross" window on both floors. A door is located to the left, also under a braced gabled hood.
