Description
Springbok Farm Cottages, originally known as Glen Grootefontein, is a house from the 16th century that has been divided into two properties. It features a timber frame that is clad in whitewashed brick at the front and 20th-century brick at the rear, with tile hanging on the first floor. The left-hand return front shows the exposed frame with whitewashed render infill. The roof is plain tiled, hipped with a gablet at the left end and hipped at the right. The building has a T-shaped plan with a cross wing on the right and stands two storeys high, with a rebuilt massive stack at the center.
On the ground floor, there are two 3-light, diamond-pane, leaded casement windows on the left and one window on the right, along with four additional windows. The first floor of the cross wing includes one 2-light leaded casement window. There are pentice roof porches at the outer ends, each with half-glazed doors: No. 4 on the left and No. 5 on the right, both flanked by margin lights. A stable-style door is located to the right of the center. The left-hand return front features end bracing and tile hanging on a coved base over the ground floor. Inside, the cottages have deep fireplaces and exposed ceiling beams.
