Description
No 22 West Street is a house and shop with historical deeds dating back to 1611. The building was refronted and extended to the rear in the early to mid 19th century, and it features a Neo-Georgian shop front from around 1950. It is a timber-framed structure refronted in roughcast, topped with a tiled roof and tall brick chimneys. The building has three storeys and one window on the front. There is a moulded eaves cornice, with a 6-pane sash window with horns on the second floor, a 9-pane sash window with horns on the first floor, and the ground floor has the 1950 shopfront with a bow, pilasters, and paterae. The rear elevation is two storeys high with a hipped roof and a modillion eaves cornice, featuring an 8-pane sash window on the first floor and a 20th-century French window on the ground floor. Inside, the ground floor has boxed-in beams, and there is an early 17th-century brick vaulted cellar accessed by a half-winder brick stair with wooden edges.
