Description
High Mill consists of a house and mill buildings dating from the 18th century. The mill house is two storeys tall, constructed from colour-washed brick with an upper section that is tile-hung with shaped tiles. It has an old tiled roof and flanking chimneys. There are five windows on both floors, although it is likely that there were originally only four on the ground floor. The central door is a six-panel design set in a moulded frame. All the windows are early 19th century, featuring eight large panes and double sashes.
The mill buildings to the left are weather-boarded and have a half-hipped mansard roof covered in old tiles. The first floor has three windows, while the ground floor features irregular windows and doors. The mill machinery remains in place. Other listed mills in the area include Willey Mill on Alton Road, Hatch Mill on the Farnham By-pass, and Bourne Mill on Guildford Road. Although most of these mills, except Bourne Mill, were built in the 18th century and were constructed after Farnham's prominence as a major corn market in southern England, they are all notable examples of their type, featuring attractive mill houses that are important for their historical and architectural significance.
