Description

Rock House is an early 19th-century building located on Guildford Road. The southeast front features two storeys with five bays, although it was originally six. It has a slate hipped roof with overhanging eaves and a cemented front, complete with end pilasters and a projecting plinth. At the north end, there is a later addition of two bays. The front displays sash windows that are three panes wide on the first floor, and round-headed sash windows with a radiating glazing pattern on the ground floor.

Access to the building is via four modern steps, which are flanked by a wrought iron handrail that terminates in a scroll. The doorway, located in the third bay from the south end, is modern and contemporary in style. It features a round-headed design with moulded architraves, keystones, and two fluted Doric pilasters on either side, along with panelled reveals and double doors that have four panels each.

The front facing southwest also has two storeys and three window bays, resembling the southeast front but with a more regular arrangement of windows. The ground floor includes two Victorian splayed bay windows in the end bays, while the centre lights feature modern Georgian-style round-headed sash windows with a radiating glazing pattern. The flanking lights have sash windows that are two panes wide. There is a round-headed doorway in the centre bay that matches the style of the doorway on the southeast front. Additionally, there is a modern two-storey, one-bay addition at the left-hand end, and the building was likely a mill house in its earlier history.
