Description
The premises occupied by Hale County Junior School is a building constructed in 1874, originally known as the Bishop Sumner Anglican School. It is a wide, single-storey structure with an attic and features a slate gabled roof. The exterior is made of flint with brick lacing courses, quoins, and dressings.
On the left side of the building, there are two 3-light casement windows with small panes and a boxed dormer above. Next, there is a tall 2-light window set partly in the roof space, topped with a gable, with each light having a pointed head. This is followed by two more 3-light casements, a taller 2-light window with a gable above, and two additional 3-light casements. The gabled bay features a 3-light casement with a dripstone below and a 2-light casement above, both adorned with 19th-century lozenge-shaped iron tracery.
At the right end of the building, there is a two-storey house with two window bays and a gable over the first-floor windows, which do not have glazing bars. The ground floor includes a splayed bay window and a gabled porch with a wooden door that has cover strips. A plaque bearing a device related to Bishop Sumner is also present.
