Description

House. Dating from the 15th century, Skinner’s Land Farmhouse is a timber-frame building encased in rendered brick and tile hanging above. The roof is tiled, with gablets and a central ridge stack. The house originally comprised a three-bay hall with a cross passage. It now has 2 storeys, with 20th-century casement windows. A central plank door is set within a 20th-century brick gabled porch. A 20th-century extension adjoins the right end. Internally, a deep brick fireplace is present, and much of the original timber frame remains visible. Located in the main room to the left of the entrance door is the original hearth, positioned beneath the current floor level, which is a rare and significant survival.
