Description
The stable at Kingwood, built in 1902 by F W Troup for J King, is located approximately 8 metres to the west of the coach house. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with grey headers that create a zig-zag pattern, featuring weatherboard gables and a plain tile roof. The building is one storey with a loft and consists of three irregular bays.
The courtyard elevation has a recessed central bay that includes a narrow door leading to the stairs on the left and two stable doors. Each outer bay is gabled and has a three-light window with a segmental header-brick arch on the ground floor. The left bay has a projecting outshut toilet, a two-light loft window, and a door on the right return, while the right bay features a board loft door under a projecting hoist. There is a stack at the left end.
On the rear side, there are two two-light windows at the eaves. The right return has a two-light window on each floor, and the left return has one two-light window. This stable is an integral part of the Kingwood complex, complementing the coach house opposite. At the time of inspection, it was noted to be in a state of disrepair and is included in the listing for its group value only.
