Description
Warren Mere is a house built between 1896 and 1897 by Sir Edwin Lutyens, later extended in 1909 for Lord Stamfordham. The building features red and brown brick on the lower level and is tile hung above, topped with hipped and half-hipped plain tiled roofs, some of which have gablets. The structure has a long "E" shaped range at the rear, with a half-hipped projecting wing at the center front and an additional wing to the right.
The house is two storeys tall, with a single-storey service range to the left. It has square corbelled stacks on the left side of the right wing, as well as additional stacks at the rear center and left. The first floor has three casement windows beneath a continuous tile drip course, and the tile hanging extends over the ground floor below. To the right, there is an angle bay window under a hipped roof. The rear range features a half-hipped end adjacent to the wing, with one first-floor casement under a tiled pent course and one ground-floor window in the end wing. There is also a three-light casement under the eaves of the projecting wing, with tile hanging extending over the open ground floor supported by four square wooden pillars.
To the left, a single-storey brick range includes an angle bay projecting under a hipped roof, and there is a four-light window on the other side of a projecting wall. Additionally, there is a single-storey L-shaped wing with hipped roofs, and the end wing projects to the left with a tall stack. The main entrance is located on the ground floor of the hipped wing, which is framed by four pillars. The house was originally set within a garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll.
