Description
High Loxley is a house dating from the 16th century to the rear, with a front elevation from the 17th century, and subsequently altered and reclad in the 18th and 19th centuries. The house is timber-framed, with exposed framing to the rear left, brick infilling above a brick underbuild. The rear features a puddingstone block end wall, while to the front the gable is constructed of galleted sandstone block with brick angle quoins and dressings; the front right and rear are clad in sandstone rubble and brick. The roofs are plain tiled, with a hip to the right. The building has a T-shaped plan, with a gable to the left. There is a C19 attic casement window in the gable. Two cambered-head windows are present on the first and ground floors, with the arches highlighted using red and blue brick. Two square windows are visible in the cellar. On the right-hand side, there is one window on each floor, with blocked-up windows and patched cladding. A rebuilt corbelled stack is located centrally on the front, at the junction of the two ranges. A pentice extension is to the left, situated on a sandstone plinth, with a further window and a hip-roofed porch to the right, containing an arched entrance. The left-hand return front features two framed bays on the lower range, with exposed tension bracing on the first floor. The rear has a slate-roofed pentice to the left, with two windows on each floor. The interior reveals exposed framing, particularly on the ceilings. A bread oven is located in the kitchen fireplace.
