Description

Japonica Cottage and Elm Corner is a house, originally dating back to the 17th century, which has been extended and subsequently divided. The construction is of sandstone rubble with brick angle quoins and dressings, topped with a plain-tiled, half-hipped roof. There is an attic space featuring a through-eaves gable dormer on the left side, containing a leaded casement window. A quadruple, corbelled ridge stack is located to the left of the centre, and an end stack is present to the right. The building has a plinth with a moulded brick edge, and a plat band runs over the ground floor. The first floor has three leaded casement windows, alongside a small between-floors window situated to the left of the centre. The ground floor features three leaded windows set under cambered heads. A half-glazed door is positioned to the left, sheltered by a gabled hood on braces, while a plank door is found in the centre, also covered by a similar hood. Extensions have been added to the rear of the property.
