Description
The Godstone Hotel and Antique Shop is a former farmhouse that has been divided and extended, with the shop on the left and the hotel on the right. The building dates from the 16th century, with a 17th-century extension to the south and Victorian additions at the rear. It features a timber frame that is underbuilt in brick, with the left side whitewashed and tile hanging above. The roof is plain tiled, double-piled to the south and hipped to the left, with end stacks, a rendered stack to the rear left, and a ridge stack to the right of center.
The building has two storeys and includes a moulded eaves board. On the first floor, there are two glazing bar sash windows on the left and three casements in the center and to the right. A 20th-century bow window is located on the ground floor to the left. There is a 20th-century glazed door to the left, framed by a Doric pilaster surround, leading to the Antique Shop. To the left of center, there is a glazed 19th-century door under a flat porch hood supported by moulded brackets, with double planked doors to the left. The right-hand return front features the main entrance to the hotel, located in the center of the ground floor. Inside, extensive framing is visible along with deep brick fireplaces.
