Description
Dwelly Farm House is a house with origins in the early 16th century to the rear, and a front dating from the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Later 19th-century extensions were added to the left. The house is timber-framed and stands on a brick plinth of red and blue brick, with diamond patterned tile hanging above. It has plain tiled roofs, the rear roof being lower with an offset end stack to the left, topped with a rendered beehive. The building is in a âTâ shape.
The front of the house has two storeys and an attic, with two hipped roof dormers each containing diamond-pane leaded casement windows. The front has regular fenestration: three three-light leaded casement windows on each floor. A planked door is located to the left of the centre, sheltered by a hipped hood. A wing to the rear has a hipped roof and a gablet.
The left hand return front shows two four-light diamond mullioned windows to the first floor, and one four-light diamond mullion window to the right return front. A three-bay arched corridor links the house to a single-storey blue and red brick range that projects forward at right angles to the street. This projecting range has three five-light leaded casement windows on its sides, and a planked door at its left end.
Inside the main house, much timber framing is visible, including a moulded centre beam in the ground floor rooms, partition and wall framing, and a deep brick fireplace.
