Description

Old East Haxted Farm House is a house dating from the 15th and 17th centuries, with restoration from the 20th century. It features a timber frame on a brick and stone plinth, with brick infill below and rendered infill above. The left side is tile hung in an alternating fishscale and diamond pattern. The roof is plain tiled and hipped on the ranges to the left. There is a triple rear ridge stack to the right of the center, with joined oversailing tops and beehive brick pots, along with additional stacks to the left. The house has an L shape with a long projecting wing to the front left and a smaller gabled front bay at the right end. It is two storeys high and has wooden framed leaded casement windows. The first floor features one 3-light window in the gable, two 2-light windows in the center, and five windows along the first floor of the left wing. The ground floor has irregular fenestration, including a 4-light casement to the right and right of center, and five windows on the left-hand wing. A planked door is located to the left in the re-entrant angle of the projecting wing, sheltered by a flat hood on braces.

On the left-hand return front, there is irregular leaded casement fenestration. A former oast house is included to the right, featuring a tile hung tapering roof and a planked door on the first floor accessed by a flight of external wooden stairs. There is also a further door to the left end under a first-floor balcony with a flat braced hood. At the rear, the left-hand bay has a jettied first floor with a square diamond pane bay window under a pent roof, and each floor of the bay has a 4-light window with ovolo mullions.

Inside, there is a considerable amount of visible framing, with chamfered beams on the ceilings and deep brick fireplaces.
