Description
Skeynes Park is a small Gothic mansion built in 1840, possibly designed by Decimus Burton. The entrance front features two storeys and three irregularly placed windows, highlighted by a tall central battlemented tower. The building has a canted right angle with a canted projecting entrance on the ground floor. It is constructed of stucco and includes a cornice and parapet, along with a string course at the first floor level. On the right side, there is a chimney breast with an arrow slit, and diagonal buttresses support the porch. A battlemented canted bay window is located on the ground floor to the left. The windows are mostly mullioned and transomed, with some featuring 4-centred heads. The entrance includes a plank door with a 4-centred arch and moulded fillets. Other elevations display varied windows, primarily sash types with glazing bars, and some have hood moulds. The tall chimneys have hexagonal shafts. Inside, the mansion showcases Gothic plasterwork. Skeynes Park was formerly the residence of the Cobbett family, descendants of the parliamentarian William Cobbett.
