Description

Tandridge Priory is a house dating back to the 17th century, with extensions added in the 18th and early 19th centuries. It has a timber-frame core, now largely hidden by rendered brick cladding, with further brick extensions. The main central section has a plain tiled roof, mostly concealed by rendered parapets, while the right-hand wing has a lower, hipped slate roof. There are two chimney stacks at the ends of the central block and the extensions.

The house is two storeys high with an attic in the centre, which has three flat-roofed dormers at the rear. A plat band runs above the ground floor in the centre and to the left. There are six sash windows on the first floor of the central and left sections; the rightmost window drops down to align with the plat band. Four further glazing bar sash windows are found in the lower wing to the right, and some of the ground floor windows have cambered heads. A flat, Doric-style porch is enclosed to the right of the centre of the building, featuring crowning urns at the ends and double, half-glazed panelled doors with a transom light above.

At the rear, there is an angle bay window on the ground floor to the right, and a pent-roofed glazed conservatory on the ground floor to the left. A slab balustrade runs across the first floor in the centre.

The interior features a stone-paved entrance hall, a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters, and plain cornices supported by acanthus leaf brackets in the ground and first floor rooms. Some of the original timber framing is visible in the central range, along with a deep brick fireplace.
