Description
Riverbend House is a house dating from around 1793, which underwent changes in window styles during the mid 19th century and 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, covered in roughcast, and features a mansarded slate roof with end chimney stacks made of cement. It has two storeys, attics, and a basement, with three windows and two parallel ranges. The attic includes three 8-pane pivoting sash windows and is topped with a parapet that has coping. The front features three mid 19th century sash windows with verticals only and horns, which have later glazing strips added. The central entrance has a doorcase with a flat hood supported by brackets, pilasters, a rectangular fanlight, a 20th century panelled door, and steps leading to the street. The rear elevation retains some original windows, including an 8-pane sash in the central dormer, a 16-pane sash on the right side of the first floor, and a sliding sash above the central rear extension. There is a central flight of stone steps with an iron handrail. Inside, the house has several original six-panelled doors, a dado rail in the lounge, and some ornate plaster cornices with ovolo moulding. The first floor rear bedroom features a wooden fire surround and a cast iron basket grate, while the basement includes a cast iron firegrate and stone flags.
