Description
The railings with gateway and end piers at the front of Halliford Manor date from the 18th century, likely in the mid-1700s. They are made of wrought iron and sit on a brick plinth, which is partly covered in stucco. The low plinth wall has a flat stone coping that supports the railings, which feature square section bars topped with spiked finials. The railings include decorative panels with scrolled, twisted bars and leafy, scrolled finials, and similar decorative ironwork is present on the sides and above the central gateway. The square section end piers have strings, cornices, and stepped pedestals topped with eagle finials. The clock in Clock Cottage, which was the former coach house for Halliford Manor, is dated 1744, suggesting that Halliford Manor, along with the coach house and front railings, may date from that period.
