Description
Nos 77 and 77A on High Street in Reigate date from the 16th century or earlier, with early 19th-century additions and alterations. The front of No 77A features a wide gabled bay and is the southern part of a late medieval house that is oriented end on to the road. Although much of the service end has been lost, the original service doors can still be seen behind the modern shop front. This facade is blank above the shop. The one-bay left return to Park Lane has an early 19th-century facade and a modern shop window.
No 77 has an early 19th-century front that is two storeys high with two windows. It is made of stucco with incised lines and has a low pitched hipped slate roof. The first floor features sash windows with glazing bars, while the ground floor has a mid-19th-century butcher's shop front with tiled stallrisers that include the name "BELLINGHAM" in the design. There is a projecting loggia supported by four wooden columns, topped with an entablature and ornamental cast iron guard. To the left, there is a lower two-storey, two-window meat store, which may be earlier, also made of stucco with a higher pitched hip-ended tiled roof. It has a six-panel door and replaced metal casements.
