Description
The Red Cross Hotel is a late 16th century half H-shaped house located on the north side of High Street in Reigate. The building features three-storey gable-ended wings and a two-storey center with a lower eaves level. It has high pitched tiled roofs with widely sprocketed eaves and three wide bays in total. The compound ridge stack has been largely rebuilt. The walls are now roughcast, with bands at the first and second floor levels that step down over the central door to follow the slope of the hill. This suggests an 18th century re-fronting of a timber-framed building on more than one level. The windows are modern leaded casements, and there are two modern doors located at the center and right, with the former positioned under a small, bracketed hood.
