Description
West Lodge with walls, piers, and gates is a building of early 19th century appearance, displaying a classical shape and Greek revival detailing. The main two-storey section features a single wide bay, with one-storey side wings set back. The construction is of coursed freestone, with ashlar rusticated quoins and dressings. The windows have wide flat stone mullions. A wide entrance archway is framed by square columns and an entablature featuring wreaths in the frieze. Above the archway, a wide parapet projects to form a balcony for the upper window and displays a coat of arms. The roof is low-pitched and slated with bracketed eaves soffits; the side wings have guilloche moulded pierced parapets. Tall, square gate piers support an entablature and spike finial. Quadrant curved side walls extend to the outer piers, with shorter flanking walls. The gates are of light wrought iron, consisting of a double gate and a single gate.
