Description
The White Lion Public House is a building from the 16th century that has undergone alterations. It has an L-shaped layout with floor levels that change due to the slope of the hill. The structure has two storeys and a basement, featuring two windows in the original section, along with a late 19th-century lean-to on the left and an extension on the right. The high-pitched roofs have been renewed with machine tiles, and the chimneys have been rebuilt. The exterior is roughcast, with the first floor displaying imitation half-timbering. The windows are 19th-century casements, some of which have decorative leaded glazing. There is a modern door hood. The gable-ended wing facing Grovehill Road has an old compound chimney stack. Inside, there are four rooms that retain good original ceilings, with both beams and joists featuring stop-chamfered designs with stepped or tongued stops, and there is a smoke-bay that has been walled up.
