Description

Upper Gatton Park is an early 18th-century building, originally the main house but later used as a servants’ wing, now being restored as a residence. The building is two storeys high and has eleven windows. A three-bay section slightly projects towards the centre, topped with a pediment featuring modillion cornices. The walls are primarily red brick with stone dressings, although the main walls are now stuccoed, with brick parapets remaining. Features include a first-floor band, a plinth, end pilasters, and a moulded cornice. An impost band and key blocks frame the round-arched ground floor openings in the central section. The roof is slate-covered, with tiles behind, and has a shaped gable end facing south. A Coade stone relief of Diana is set within a medallion in the pediment. The first-floor centre window opens to what was formerly a balustraded porch, which is to be replaced. An octagonal wooden clock tower, with a pointed roof and vane, rises from the ridge. Sash windows with vertical bars are present; those on the rear elevation are segment-headed.
