Description

The Priors is a late 16th or early 17th century cottage, documented in the Parish Register for 1629. The building was refronted and extended to the southwest in the early 19th century, and subsequently refenestrated and given a porch around 1940. The structure is timber-framed, with a tile-hung exterior except for the northeast front, which is brick with stretcher bond. It has a tiled roof and brick chimneystacks at each end. The cottage has two storeys and two windows. The windows are casements with leaded lights dating from around 1940, including a two-storey bay window on the southwest front. A porch of around 1940 is located on the northwest side, but the southeast front retains an original external plank door. The interior ground floor reveals an exposed axial beam with a 2-inch chamfer and lamb's tongue stops, a wall frame with a midrail, and several plank doors. The first floor shows an exposed frame with a tie beam, midrail, and diagonal braces. It also has original floorboards. The roof features pegged rafters.
