Description
The walls and balustrades to the terraced garden on the north side of Ashtead Park House were likely built in the late 19th century and are made of Portland stone. The garden measures approximately 80 meters wide and 60 meters deep at its center, divided into upper and lower sections. The upper terrace is rectangular and wraps around the east end of the house, while the lower terrace features a large semicircular bow in the center.
The upper terrace includes a retaining wall made of rock-faced pulvinated courses topped with a moulded coping. It has a balustrade with vase balusters and square piers placed at regular intervals, with urns on the piers flanking a wide flight of steps in the center. The lower terrace is designed in a similar style, featuring corner urns, and the semicircular bow encloses a large quatrefoiled flower bed with a cavetto surround.
